Authorities are investigating after a woman was shot by a 4-year-old over the weekend.
Marietta Hill, 64, from Westeel, Illinois, was shot at around 12:30 p.m. While driving near a gas station in Tilton, Illinois, investigators at the Vermillion County Police Department said.
The officers said that Hill and the child, a relative of the woman, were traveling in the car when the child found a gun. The child accidentally shot the driver’s seat and hit Hill, according to the Champaign County police doctor.
The car hit a sign at the gas station. She was taken to Urbana Hospital, Illinois, where officers said she died from a gunshot wound.
The accident is under investigation.
