A gunman shot three men, killing one, inside the entrance to a subway station in Midtown Manhattan. The Associated Press reported that a 43-year-old man was shot in the neck and declared dead at the bottom of the stairs at the station on 35th Street and Eighth Street.
The second victim, a 45-year-old man, was shot twice in the neck and torso and was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. The third victim, a 48-year-old man, was hit by a bullet in the right thigh and was taken to hospital with injuries that did not pose a threat to his life.
The police have identified the man who died as Angel Quinones. The man in critical condition has been identified as William Lampoy and the other one is Eddie Torres. An official told the Associated Press that the three victims had long records of arrests mostly related to drugs.
Two men who were attending a nearby methadone program at West Midtown Medical Group said they knew two victims, one killed and the other injured, according to the Associated Press. They said the two victims had been to the clinic for years.
The shooting took place at around 6:15 a.m.
Police said the dispute between the two men, which started inside a nearby McDonald’s restaurant, has spread to the center.
The policemen had to block the entrance to the station where the A, C and E lines stop.
Search is ongoing for the gunman who fled north at 8th Ave. In a silver car.
A surveillance video also showed a man running in the street, but it was not clear if he was the gunman.
Police are investigating a possible shooting relationship with a heroine dispute over the weekend or if it concerns a nearby clinic.
