Pensacola, Fl
Edmunds Police is asking prosecutors to consider filing criminal charges against a father who accidentally shot his 5-year-old daughter while holding a pistol.
Officers said the 36-year-old was in the house with his wife and three children and was carrying a firearm in a holster. They say the gun was fired while the man was “manipulating” the weapon before locking it in a cupboard.
The officers said the bullet went through a wall and hit the child in the arm. The girl was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
The police did not disclose the identity of the man.
Police said investigators have referred the charge of unlawfully firing a firearm to the Edmunds City Attorney for review. There was no immediate response to a phone message requesting comment from the Attorney General’s office.
