A 73-year-old woman was recovering from a brutal assault during a rape attempt in Manhattan.
Police said the victim was walking in front of 11 Greenwich Street at about 1 a.m. when the attacker approached her, demanding sex.
When she refused, he punched her several times in the face, breaking several teeth and fracturing her eye socket, the policemen added. She also had several cuts and bruises.
The man took her bag that had 20 dollars in it before running away.
The victim was treated at a local hospital. The police were searching for the suspect.
It is described as being black, ranging between 25 and 35 years old, 6 feet tall and thin in build. He wore a red track suit with gray and white Nike sneakers.
