San Diego Police announced the arrest of a man suspected of sexually assaulting an elderly woman at a nursing home in Hillcrest.
Investigators detained Lucien Arlene, 48, on Monday over the crime that occurred at any home for the elderly. The police did not disclose the name of the nursing home, but officials at the Balboa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center confirmed that the attack took place at their facilities.
Police said the 88-year-old victim was inside a nursing home when Arline entered the facility illegally. The officers said he sexually assaulted the woman in her bed.
The victim and the other patients in the room started screaming.
“When the staff responded, Arlene fled,” police wrote in a press release.
San Diego Police Sexual Crime Unit investigators collected evidence at the scene, including male DNA that had been processed by a crime lab and uploaded to the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
Investigators identified Arline as a suspect, and with the help of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Arline was arrested.
Arlene is currently being held on parole. He will face multiple criminal charges including robbery, sexual assault and elder abuse, according to police.
The nursing home officials sent the following statement
We are grateful to the authorities for the arrest of a suspect who illegally entered our community and assaulted one of our residents. Our thoughts remain with the resident and the resident’s family, and we will continue to cooperate fully with officials as they investigate and seek justice for this individual. We will continue to stay in close contact with the Resident and the Resident’s family and provide support and assistance in any form. We are committed to doing whatever is necessary to help ensure the safety of residents, families, employees, and visitors in our community at all times. Out of respect for the resident and the resident’s family, as well as the investigative process that the authorities are conducting, additional suspension at this time would be inappropriate.
