A woman visiting from Ocala died after she was shot at Dania Beach Bar during an altercation between two men that escalated into a shootout.
A barrage of bullets is fired at Rookie’s Ale House at the 3300 Griffin Road complex.
The police are hoping that witnesses from inside the bar can direct them to the people responsible for the shooting.
Marisa Harris, a 32-year-old student who grew up in Dania Beach and mother of a young daughter, just wanted to show off her new car for her family and reconnect with her old friends.
She was inside Rookie’s bar when someone started shooting, smashing the window.
“There was an exchange of fire between two of the shepherds inside Rookie’s Ale House,” said Miranda Grossman, a spokeswoman for Broward Sharif’s office.
Investigators said Harris was just a bystander “who was shot and unfortunately died later,” Grossman said.
“Oh my God!” Said one of the residents, “We just opened the door and said, ‘I had an accident. I can’t talk about it, but it’s closed.’
“We had never encountered a problem like this there before. Another resident said: It is like a normal bar working with normal working people.
“I hacked into one wall, another wall, in the picture frame and my wardrobe,” said Joan Vasil, owner of the hair salon.
The hairdressing salon next door was closed at the time of the shooting. Regardless, Vasil is upset about what happened.
“It’s scary, yeah. It’s always scary, you know?” She said. “You don’t want to see anyone get hurt, especially here. It’s a small community. Everyone knows everyone, so it will affect a lot of people.”
This includes the Harris family and her daughter.
The Harris family said they have recently returned to their faith, and that gives them some comfort.
Investigators are looking for the two men involved in the shooting.
