Authorities announced that a suspect in a shop robbery was killed in a shooting involving police in Indiana.
Officers from the Seymour Police Department were called to the Wal-Mart Supercenter at 1600 East Tipton Street (US 50) to investigate a robbery from the store before 9pm. According to Indiana State Police.
State police said in a press release that they had found a man who matched the description of the suspect along Tipton Street, who was allegedly in possession of stolen goods.
The man fled the officers on foot, heading north through Tipton Street.
The investigation revealed that the man entered a hole in front of the Taco Bell while he was armed with a pistol, according to the statement.
Two Seymour police officers fired their weapons and beat the suspect.
State police say he received medical attention at the scene before being transferred to Shank Medical Center in Seymour, where he succumbed to his wounds.
None of the officers were injured in the accident.
The Seymour Police Department asked investigators from the Indiana State Police – Versailles Post to conduct an investigation into the accident.
According to a police press release, investigators are working to identify the dead man and notify his family.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
The statement said that his identity and that of the officers involved “will soon appear.”
At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be brought to the Jackson County District Attorney’s office for review.
