Two people were killed in separate incidents in the southern suburbs of Doulton.
Gunnel Craig, 33, was shot in the back around 2:50 pm. In the 200 block of East 143 Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner Office. He died less than an hour later.
An autopsy said that Craig died of his wounds, and his death was sentenced to murder, according to the coroner’s office. Craig lived in Matteson.
Just before midnight, 28-year-old Martrell Swanson was shot in the head at 14,600 blocks on Princeton Street, the medical examiner’s office said. Swanson, who lived in Saint Paul, Minnesota, was transferred to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he died.
Swanson’s death has been considered a murder, according to an autopsy by the Office of the Medical Examiner.
Doulton Police did not immediately respond to a request for details of the shooting.
The two shootings added to a violent holiday in the southern suburbs, where police shot a man after he aimed his pistol at the officers. The man is expected to survive.
