Police are investigating a fatal shooting incident at a gas station in northwest Miami-Dade.
Miami-Dade Police responded to reports of shooting near a highway along 167 Northwest Street and Second Avenue, near the Golden Glades intersection, after 1:50 am.
Family members identified the victim as 26-year-old Timothy King.
“It was very scary. I could have had a bullet.” Witness Geoffrey Nicholas said, “I thought I was hit by a bullet.”
Nicholas said he was transporting petrol to the gas station when he heard four to five shots.
“You hear the shots and it just reacts. I just jumped in. I was switching the hose on, dropping the gas and dropping the hose when I jumped into the truck. That’s all I did.”
When they arrived at the scene, the officers said they found the victim, apparently with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Relatives of the victim were seen distraught at the scene.
The witness said he did not get a clear picture of what was going on. All he can do is flee to safety.
“I was just trying to run, man. That’s it,” said Nicholas.
The king leaves behind a baby girl.
Crime scene investigators worked to collect evidence from the shooting until the morning.
The petrol station and another parking lot nearby were closed but have since reopened.
Police did not disclose the motive and did not name any suspects in the shooting.
