Pensacola, Fl

Three people were killed and another seriously injured when a driver of a car stolen from a San Diego police officer escaped in the Sherman Heights area and crashed about two miles near the intersection of Mount Hope, according to police.

The chase began near the intersection of 24th Street and Island Avenue at 11:01 PM. San Diego Police Officer John Patel said after a San Diego police officer ran a 2003 Honda Pilot license plate and discovered that the SUV had been stolen.

When the officer tried to stop the car, Patel said, its driver took off and the officer lost sight of the car as it was heading east on Market Street near Highway 15.

He said a police helicopter kept track of the car until it crashed near the intersection of Markt and Raven Streets, about a half-mile east of Highway 15.
