A man died after being trapped in his home in Warren for more than 10 hours.
On Friday, around 9 p.m., police said they received a 911 call to shoot the Lancaster Woods Condos. When the officers arrived at the compound, they found a man, with a history of mental illness, throwing things out of his apartment where he was fortified.
Negotiators with the Warren Police Department and the man’s family spent the night trying to persuade him to leave.
Then, at around 7:30 a.m., the man jumped out the rear window with a 9mm hand and confronted the officers. At that point, the officers returned fire and hit him.
Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer confirmed that the officers involved are now on administrative leave with pay as the investigation continues.
As of now, the man’s name or age has not been disclosed.
