A person was shot dead by Chicago police in the Little Village neighborhood, according to a Chicago Fire Department official.
At approximately 12:27 PM, officers responded to a report of multiple shots being fired at 2,600 Block of South Hamlin Street.
Officers attempted to curb a suspicious car, seen nearby, and it ran away and crashed into a lamppost near an alleyway on the 3700 block of West 26th Street.
Two men and a woman fled the car, including a man carrying a pistol. The officers shot the individual armed with a weapon. Injured in his buttocks.
The weapon was found and the man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Mark Nevarez. He lived in the small village.
Two men were detained and two weapons were seized. The second weapon was found in the stolen vehicle.
A woman fled the scene, and police say she is still free.
The officers involved in this incident were not shot, but were taken to hospital for observation.
