Police were called to Block 900 of Poplar Grove to report the shooting shortly before 3:30 PM.
At the scene, they found a boy who had been injured multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the officers were investigating the shooting, the police were notified of a second shooting. A 12-year-old boy was shot in the foot. He was taken to the district hospital for treatment.
Grieving friends recognized the murdered victim, 16-year-old Jah Atkins.
The murder of another child in Baltimore once again stirs up strong emotions, from anger to frustration.
“This is the daily rhythm of the drum of violence in Baltimore,” said former federal prosecutor Thero Fenerajah. “We got used to there being no anger. Dozens of murders occurred within a stone’s throw of that corner this year.”
