One person is killed and a child injured in a shooting in Arlington

Pensacola, Fl

The Jacksonville Police Office said a man killed and wounded a 7-year-old boy in what police described as a targeted shooting at a sports stadium in Arlington.

The officers were called shortly after 6 pm. Police said after reports of firing on the field at 6400 Macy Ave. , West Arlington Road. Officers found the man and a young boy with gunshot wounds. Police said they were taken to hospital, but the man died there. Police said the 7-year-old is undergoing treatment and is in a condition that does not threaten his life.

Investigators told news partner First Coast News that he believed the man and boy were a father and son. Police said they were with a large number of people at a youth soccer match when a gray or silver sports car stopped near where the victims were sitting.

Police said the suspect, who was wearing a mask, got off the SUV and shot the victims in what appeared to be a targeted act rather than random violence. Police said the suspect fled in an unknown direction.

The fatal shooting comes after a weekend of violence in the Arlington community, which included a shooting that injured a woman at 1100 Block on Arco Drive, the same Arlington neighborhood where an unknown man was killed. A man between 18 and 24 was found dead by a fatal bullet around 7:30 pm. behind stores at Regency Park shopping center on 9400 Atlantic Boulevard, police said.
