Chicago Police have confirmed the death of an infant, a pregnant woman from Chicago who was fatally shot.
The shooting occurred early Tuesday morning in 2100 District of East 95 Place, in a leafy neighborhood of Georgian brick homes on the South Side. Chicago Police said the woman, identified as Stacy Jones, 35, was found lying unresponsive to two shots in the back.
Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Jones was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition but died later. Police said Jones was eight months pregnant, and doctors were able to deliver the baby who was receiving care at Comer Children’s Hospital.
Cook County Chief Justice Timothy Evans said in a memo to court employees that Jones was a probation officer with the Adult Control Division.
“Our thoughts go to her family, colleagues and friends at this difficult time,” Evans said.
Police say this investigation is still open and ongoing.
