A man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in an incident seen while learning online in West Chesterfield on the South Side.
Chicago Police said Katriel Walls, 18, is charged with a felony charge of criminal sexual assault on a victim under the age of 13.
Walls were seen on an online educational app performing a sexual act with the baby at around 1:30 pm. In 200th block from East 89, the police said. The officers returned the house and arrested him. The girl was transferred to Kummer Children’s Hospital.
Police did not say who witnessed the accident or whether the online learning app was associated with a particular school.
Police said Walls, who lives in West Chesterfield, will appear in court for a bail hearing.
Distance learning, a valuable tool for children because it allows them to learn from home amid a pandemic, can also become a window into the violent homes in which some children live.
Last month, while a Milwaukee Public Schools class was being held via distance learning, a fatal shooting occurred at the home of a 9-year-old student.
