Authorities in Texas said a severely pregnant woman and her baby died after another woman severed the fetus from her womb.
The victim was 22 years old, and her pregnant woman was about eight months old. Her child did not survive.
Authorities have yet to identify the deceased woman, but online fundraisers have named her Reagan Hancock, from New Boston.
Police said the officers responded to an address in Building 200 on Austin Street in New Boston after a call to 911. “Upon arrival, a female dead inside a condo was discovered,” the New Boston Police Department said in a press release.
Police said that a preliminary investigation indicated that an embryo had been removed from the victim’s body.
They added that a woman was later detained by authorities in Oklahoma. It has not been identified yet.
According to KLTV, the suspect showed up at a hospital in Idabel, Oklahoma with the fetus, who later died there. She was later accused of kidnapping and killing an unborn child. Further fees are expected, the station said.
The New Boston Police Department said Texas Rangers are now investigating the accident. No further details were immediately provided. The Police Department and Texas Rangers have been contacted for additional comments.
Meanwhile, the friends have created a Facebook fundraising account and a Paypal account to help the Hancock family, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars in donations so far.
Hancock and her child were “selfishly murdered by someone Reagan regards as a friend.”
