Police said a 3-year-old boy was killed after a man shot him and shot the boy’s mother.
The shooting occurred at 6200 Block Almeida Genoa shortly after 7 pm. evening.
Art Acevedo, Houston Police Chief, said they received a phone call about a man trying to shoot his girlfriend.
About four minutes later, Acevedo said they learned her current boyfriend had shot her.
The exact motive that led to the shooting is still under investigation, but Acevedo said there was a verbal quarrel between the woman and her boyfriend.
Acevedo said that his girlfriend went to seek shelter with her ex-boyfriend when the current friend came, broke into the house with an assault rifle and additional weapons stores, and started shooting.
After about three minutes, Acevedo said a perimeter was established, and there were additional officers on site as well as paramedics.
Acevedo said that an officer, a 25-year-old who has been with the administration for two and a half years, confronted her boyfriend and noticed he was still armed.
Acevedo said the officer fired several bullets at his current friend, beating him.
Acevedo said the woman was shot in the leg and hand, and paramedics took her to Memorial Hermann. She is currently in stable condition.
