Police said a 19-year-old suspect in theft was killed, and a store clerk and hospital customer are recovering after a small store in northeast Columbus was shot in the early morning.
A caller to 911 reported that a burglary was shot at Beechcroft Newsstand located at 1935 E. Dublin-Granville Road shortly after 1 a.m., according to a correspondent.
Joan Hawkins Payne, a suspected theft, died at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Store clerk Hamad Mubarak and client Victor H. Mendes, 29, goes to area hospitals where they are expected to recover.
The shop window shattered and evidence signs littered outside the store in the parking lot. A tow truck pulled a black sedan out of the parking lot, but the police did not confirm its connection to the investigation.
Police have arrested Diethan Jones, 20, accused of theft and charged him with murder. Janick N. Broil Bias, 18, was murdered.
