Authorities said a man found dead in a California neighborhood appeared to have committed suicide after he stabbed his twin daughters in a nearby home.
The officers responded to a report of an unknown disturbance around 12:40 am, according to a press release issued by the Placentia Police Department.
A wounded man was found on the lawn in a front yard when the officers arrived. A police spokesman said police also found two girls bleeding from stab wounds in a house across the street.
Police said paramedics responded and declared the 9-year-old girls dead at the scene.
The death of the 41-year-old man, who later became known as Timothy Takehara, was announced. Investigators say they believe he is the father of the children.
Police said that two other people who were inside the house at the time, the mother of the two girls and the man’s mother, were unharmed.
Investigators described the incident as a murder and suicide suspects and said that there were no known suspects.
