Police say the father ran several Google searches for about an hour before calling 911 for his young daughter, who is now accusing her of assault and rape.
Among the searches, according to police research on the father’s phone, “if the child stops breathing,” “what if you didn’t hear the baby’s heart or beat,” “my baby isn’t breathing,” and “how do you know if a child dies?”
The baby – 10-month-old daughter of Austin Stevens – died after a terrible accident at the family home in Lower Providence, Montgomery County, according to police.
That is, after an autopsy of a child named Zara Scrogos, it was determined that she was the victim of sexual assault.
This issue is very worrying. It is hard to imagine that this child’s death became more traumatic: the sexual abuse of the infant, then the father’s failure to act to save her life, led to her death, “Montgomery County A.A. Kevin R. Steele was quoted as saying.
Authorities said Stevens is now facing charges of involuntary deviant sexual contact, aggravated assault, and other charges.
First responders were sent at 10:40 p.m. to the father’s delayed 911 call about an unresponsive child.
The 10-month-old was transferred to the Einstein Medical Center in Montgomery where she died shortly after midnight.
The father was charged following the autopsy report.
