Costas John Cefelis and Lindsay Vogelaar, both from Port Orange, Florida, came to Telluride to escape and enjoy an adventurous honeymoon.
They got married in a small ceremony. They planned to document their honeymoon online for family and friends.
Sevilles, 30, and Vogelaar, 33, have both worked in the aerospace industry. Sivyllis was a United Airlines pilot and flight instructor. At around 12:45 p.m., the newlywed couple took off from Telluride Airport in Sevilles’ private jet, Beechcraft Bonanza, to return to Florida, according to the San Miguel Sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said, about 10 to 15 minutes later, the plane crashed in Ingram Basin, east of Telluride. Both Cefeles and Vogelaar were killed.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the accident, according to the sheriff’s office.
What was initially a rescue quickly became a recovery. While the operation was ongoing, drones were not permitted to fly in the area due to helicopter operations that were in progress.
