Police shot and killed a 33-year-old man they were trying to arrest on the basis of a warrant in southwest Washington, according to the Collitz County Police Office.
The Major Crimes Team in Lower Colombia is investigating the shooting, which took place around 1:30 p.m. In Longview, the Kaolitz County Mayor’s Office said in a press release.
The mayor’s office said the man was armed and fled the detectives in Longview. The sheriff’s office said police had failed to arrest him, using less-than-lethal means.
The mayor’s office said that at least one officer shot the man while chasing on foot.
The man died late in hospital. The Daily News reported that the sheriff’s office did not provide any further details, including whether the man aimed or shot the police. The name or names of the officers involved, the man’s name, and the reason for issuing the arrest warrant have not been renewed.
The mayor’s office said that none of the officers were injured.
