A Florida woman was accused of neglecting her baby after she was accused of leaving her seven children at home alone for several months.
North Miami Beach Police have arrested 35-year-old Elidiesneins Perez.
According to a police report, officers received a 911 call from a boy who said his mother had not registered him at school.
Investigators say the boy and his six brothers, who ranged in ages from 4 to 17, were left alone at home.
The day before, Perez’s current husband was arrested for mistreating her two children, ages 16 and 17. When he was released from prison, he was ordered to stay away.
But instead of staying home with her children, the police said she chose to stay with her husband instead, and let the children fend for themselves.
Perez did not leave any contact information for the children until they could find her.
The interrogators said that the children had little food at home, and told the interrogators that they had to eat rice for breakfast because they had nothing else.
The children also told the officers that they did not wear clean clothes because they had not been to the laundromat for two months.
Older children told the police that they would rather live in foster homes than their current situation. They said a family friend in San Diego had offered to take care of them, but the children said their mother had refused to waive her parental rights because she was getting a monthly check for the two of them.
The Florida Department of Children and Families has detained the seven children.
Officers charged Perez with seven counts of neglecting a child.
