Police said two people were killed in an accident that resulted in the closure of Wolf Street near Chicago Executive Airport in Welling.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Wolf Road and Messner Drive, and spilled onto the west side of the Chicago Airport Executive Building.
Police on wheels said that two cars appeared to collide at around 7:35 a.m., then hit a fence and parked in the airport building. Two unresponsive people were found and taken to a medical examiner in Cook County, where they were pronounced dead.
The identity of the two dead was not known.
A video clip from the scene showed a truck flipping over its side with debris strewn on the road, and a four-wheel drive vehicle being overturned upside down.
The authorities appeared to have closed the Wolf Road between the Hintz and Palatine Roads as they remained at the scene.
Jimmy Abbott, Chicago Airport Executive Director, said the accident did not happen on the airport property, but passed one of the fences and spilled onto the second runway, which remained closed during the police investigation.
Abbott added that no airport personnel, equipment or aircraft were involved in the accident, indicating that the main runway is still open and the airport is cooperating with the investigation of the accident.
