A man was shot dead inside a home in northwest Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after 4:15 am, according to the JSO, police responded to a home on Tusk Road off Edgewood Avenue West in the Magnolia Gardens neighborhood and found a man with a one-shot wound. The sheriff’s office said he was taken to a hospital in the area, where he was in a life-threatening condition upon his last examination.
Police said the man was not living in the house. The officers said that three other people inside the house at the time were being held for questioning.
A woman who identified herself as the man’s sister said that her brother was 41 years old. She said he lived nearby and was visiting friends.
The organization said it did not believe it was a drive-by shooting, and investigators will search for potential witnesses and video evidence.
Neighbor Makita Hunt moved to the Magnolia Gardens neighborhood about a year and a half ago.
“It’s really busy over there – people coming in and out of there,” Hunt said. “I thought we walked away from that kind of thing.”
She said she is now on alert, adding that there are many children living in the area, including her baby. There is also a school nearby on Vernon Road.
“You wouldn’t think that something like this you had to worry about would happen very close to home and very close to the children,” Hunt said.
