South African President Cyril Ramaphosa punished his Defense Minister Nosiviwe Mabisa-Ngakula with a three-month salary deduction after allowing senior officials from the ruling African National Congress to accompany her on an official visit to Zimbabwe.
The South African presidency said in a statement, “The punishment imposed on the minister demonstrated the seriousness in which the president sees the minister’s mistake, and the party pledged to compensate the government for the costs of the visit.”
