Pensacola, Fl
A 3-year-old was killed by a fatal bullet in a Florida home in a pedestrian car attack that investigators believe was an act of revenge on a gang, just one day after two teenagers were shot, including a 14-year-old was killed, officials recently announced.
The boy, named Daquin James Felix Jr., was shot while he was inside his home on Drexel Avenue, in Pine Hills near Orlando, shortly before 9:30 PM. A few days after celebrating his third birthday, the police said
. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Orange County Sheriff John Mina said during a press release that Felix Jr., who turned 3 years old on September 13, was killed in one of four speeding vehicle shooting incidents reported during the past week.
Just miles away on Glendale Avenue, two teenagers – including the 14-year-old who was killed – were also injured in a different car attack the day before, Mina said. Police said the surviving victim was 15 years old.
He said, “Each one, as we believe, or the investigators believe it is an act of revenge against a gang.” “There are some very violent gangs here at work in Orange County. They are heavily armed and not afraid to use violence. They don’t think twice about who they kill.”
Mina said that the ministry had recently witnessed “an increase in violence and revenge” and that OCSD’s focus on gang violence was a top priority.
Witnesses told a local branch that they heard gunshots and saw cars drive off Drexel Street.
Felix Jr.’s grandmother, Veronica Felix, described the terrifying scene only moments after the gunmen opened fire.
“I saw him in my head lying on the ground there and I couldn’t save him,” Felix. “It hurts badly. It hurts badly.”
She said she hoped the militants “only surrender”.
