Columbus police said one man was killed and three others wounded in three shootings over a period of nearly two hours.
Officers found the man dead in an alley near the intersection of East Muller Street and City Gate Avenue in Merrion Village around 1:54 AM.
Investigators were working to determine the cause of the shooting, but the police said it was “not random.” Charles Knapper, 21, has been identified as the victim. Robert Bowen, 23, is charged with the crime. Bowen’s arrest warrant has been issued.
Police said officers heard gunshots from the murder while investigating a double shooting incident in East Main Street and South Lazale Street, in which two men shot in a possible robbery attempt.
The men were outside a club after working hours when two men approached them asking to “give me your things,” the police said. Police said that investigators found 15 casings of the shells, including a mixture of rifle and pistol bullets.
Both injured men were taken to Grant Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The violent night began with the shooting of a man in Grant in the leg at 11:44 p.m. Tuesday, the police said. Investigators later determined that he had been shot near Bar Avalon at 205 North Fifth Street.
Investigators said the three shooting did not appear to be connected. No suspects were identified, and no names were released immediately.
A fourth shooting was reported in Franklinton that resulted in a person being sent to hospital in critical condition.
