An 18-year-old woman died and a 21-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries after a double shooting at Wickshire Apartment Homes on Lane Street.
A spokesman for Sheriff Jacksonville’s office said the shooting occurred around 1 a.m., according to police, the victims were sitting in a car when the shooter approached, most likely a rifle and fired several bullets at the vehicle.
Both were taken to hospital, where the 18-year-old died.
Police said that some of the bullets fired hit the surrounding apartments, but no one was injured inside those buildings.
Police did not provide a description of the shooter but said it appeared the two victims were targeted.
