A 10-year-old was killed and several others injured after a three-car crash early in the morning in Westport, according to a statement from the Bristol County Attorney’s Office.
Shortly after 2 a.m., Westport Police received several massive calls to 911 about a car accident on Route 6 in the Route 88 Junction area, according to the statement.
The Westport, Dartmouth, and Val River Fire departments responded to the scene.
The statement stated that the 10-year-old girl and her 9-year-old sister were seriously injured. The 10-year-old was pronounced dead at Saint Anne’s Hospital in Val River while her sister was in critical condition at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 29-year-old New Bedford woman was driving a Subaru WRX when it made slight contact with the rear end of a Toyota Tundra, led by a 43-year-old New Bedford woman.
The people in both cars were heading back to New Bedford from a party.
The cars stopped in the left travel lane to assess the damage before agreeing to resolve it later, the statement said. When both cars began leaving, a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 29-year-old man collided in the rear of the Subaru, pushing it into the Tundra, the statement said.
The release said the 10-year-old girl who died and her sister were apparently sitting in the back seat of Subaru at the time.
The accident is under investigation.
