A woman and her dog were beaten and killed on Sunday by a driver who rammed and fled on the Costa Mesa.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred at 6:53 am in Mesa Drive and Irvine Street.
Florentino Oliveira, CHP officer Florentino Oliveira, said the couple were in the crosswalk when they were hit by a silver sedan heading south on Irvine Street.
A representative from the Orange County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene at 8:12 a.m., according to the CHP Traffic Accident Information Page. The vehicle that left the scene was described as possibly a Toyota Camry or a Mitsubishi with a wing.
Oliveira said there was some damage to the right front of the vehicle.
“We had some witnesses,” he said. “We are working on some leads for now.”
