A woman and her dog were beaten and killed on Sunday by a driver who rammed and fled on the Costa Mesa.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred at 6:53 am in Mesa Drive and Irvine Street.

Florentino Oliveira, CHP officer Florentino Oliveira, said the couple were in the crosswalk when they were hit by a silver sedan heading south on Irvine Street.

A representative from the Orange County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene at 8:12 a.m., according to the CHP Traffic Accident Information Page. The vehicle that left the scene was described as possibly a Toyota Camry or a Mitsubishi with a wing.
