A man was shot dead after he shot a deputy in the morning on Highway 14 near Rundrock Randsburg, police officials say.
The deputy has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the shooting investigation.
At around 6:52 a.m., the MP was sent to report on a man with a pistol walking along the highway, according to sheriff officials. Two vehicles were reported in the area and may have contact with the man.
Officials said that when the deputy arrived, he stopped one of the cars, got out and waved a pistol at the prosecutor. The man was fatally shot, and the deputy was not injured.
A rifle was placed next to the man, according to the sheriff’s office. His name has not been released yet.
