Pensacola, Fl
Authorities said a St. Louis police officer who was a “hero” to his family died after an entrenched gunman shot himself in the head on the south side of town.
Officer Tamaris L. Bohannon, 29, has been with the department for 3 and a half years.
A second officer, who was shot in the leg, was treated and released after shooting at around 6 pm. St. Louis Police spokeswoman Michelle Woodling said on Saturday in the South Grande neighborhood near Tower Grove Park.
Woodling said the second officer was 30 years old and had been in the force for six months. Woodling said the 43-year-old suspect was arrested Sunday morning.
Mayor Lida Creuson said in a statement Sunday night that she was “saddened” by Bohannon’s death. “I have had the honor to spend time with his family under these very difficult circumstances. They are wonderful people and very proud of the way they have served and protected our community with distinction and honor for more than three years.”
