Authorities said Chicago police officers shot a man in a shootout in the Pilsen neighborhood of the city.
The accident occurred at around 10:45 p.m. At 1300 Block of West 19th Street, according to a statement from the Chicago Police.
Five people were standing on the sidewalk when police said that shots were fired at officers from the 12th district who were driving in the area, hitting their car.
Police said the officers then returned fire, wounding a man who was taken to Struger Hospital in critical condition. CPD did not provide further information about the male’s age, identity, or injuries.
Police said two people were detained at the scene, while two others fled the area on foot.
The authorities said that a firearm was recovered from the scene. Officials said that none of the officers were shot, and there were no reports of other injuries.
Chicago Police said the shootings, including the use of force, are under investigation by the Civilian Police Accountability Office. According to the police, the concerned officers will be assigned administrative tasks for a period of 30 days for each management policy.
