55 bullets, 10 fatal, at Chicago weekend gunfight

Ten people were killed and 45 others injured, including two Chicago police officers and a 15-year-old boy, in shootings across Chicago at the weekend.

Ahead of the weekend, Chicago police prepared for protests in the city in the wake of civil unrest north of the Illinois border that was sparked by Kenosha police with the shooting of Jacob Blake. The department’s new Critical Incident Response Team, consisting of around 200 officers, has been deployed in the city center. Seven people were arrested at a Black Lives Matter demonstration at Loyola University , while in the city center that day ended without any arrests.

Last weekend, 66 people were killed across the city, five of them killed.
