Chicago violence: 9 killed, 28 wounded in cross-city gunfire

Chicago police said nine people were killed and at least 28 others, including two Chicago police officers, were wounded in gunfire across the city.

In the most recent fatal shooting in the city, two people were shot on 1100 West 87th Street at 5 a.m. According to police, two men standing on a sidewalk in front of the house began shooting, beating two victims.

A 34-year-old man standing outside was hit by several bullets in the face and upper body. He was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition, and later declared dead.

A 36-year-old woman standing inside the entrance to the house was injured in the foot. She is in reasonable condition.

The first fatal shooting was reported in the city around 7 PM. At 4600 Block North Casson. According to police, an 18-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk when a person got out of a dark-colored SUV and started shooting at him.

The man was wounded in the chest and stomach, and was taken to an Illinois Masonic, where he was pronounced dead.
