A man was killed and a woman was injured in a collision near Karma.
The California Highway Patrol said that at about 11 p.m. it received a collision call involving a 2007 Mercedes CLK and a trailer on Interstate 99 south of Highway 166. A 55-year-old man was announced dead at the scene. A 42-year-old woman was taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
The CHP said that the man, who was driving the Mercedes without a seat belt, dashed onto his right shoulder on Southbound Highway 99 before suddenly accelerating to the left and into the path of the tractor trailer.
The management explained that after the collision, the Mercedes stopped in the middle, while the tractor trailer stopped in two lanes heading south.
All lanes on Interstate 99 southbound were closed at around 11:25 PM. It reopened around 3:30 in the morning.
The CHP apparently said alcohol was a factor in the collision.
