The Kern County Sheriff’s Office determined that the man killed in the shooting in which the officer was involved was 65-year-old Evrardo Gonzalez Santana.
At about 11:07 am, BPD said, officers were dispatched to Watts Drive and Lotus Lane after receiving reports of a stabbing incident.
When they arrived, officers found a stabbed woman and man. They were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for minor to moderate injuries. The officers learned that the suspect was carrying knives and that he had stolen the car of a third victim, who was also slightly injured.
BBD said the suspect drove off and then collided with another vehicle at T Street and Brundage Lane before taking off again. Officers were able to locate the suspect in the P Street and Brundage areas, after which one of the officers was shot.
The administration said it could not provide any details of the shooting, as the investigation was still early.
The suspect sustained serious injuries from the shooting and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his wounds, according to BPD.
