One of those killed in Sunday’s accident was a 15-year-old girl, according to the CHP.
The department said the girl is from Atlanta, Georgia. The other person who was killed was a 56-year-old woman from Antioch. They were both in the same vehicle, the 2015 Honda SUV.
Two passengers, one 14 and the other 16, were seriously injured in the accident, according to CHP. They were also from Atlanta. The administration stated that the last passenger, a 62-year-old woman from Antakya, was moderately wounded.
CHP says two people traveling in an SUV on Highway 5 were killed after colliding with a pickup truck that lost control in an attempt to avoid debris on the road.
The accident occurred in the northern aisles of I-5 north of SR-166 after 3 PM. South Bakersfield.
According to CHP, a Ford F-150 truck driver was driving south on the I-5 and swerving to avoid wrecks in the lane. The driver lost control of the truck, entered the northbound lanes and collided with a north-bound Honda SUV and another half-truck.
The SUV overturned and rolled off the right side of the road to Grove. Three other people were injured in the car and taken to hospital. One of them was seriously injured.
The truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
CHP Sgt. Basil Zuniga said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the accident.
The collision closed I-5 at Interstate 99 for several hours but reopened at about 6:30 PM.
Zونيñiga advised motorists to be aware of the speed on the road, to maintain safe braking distances, and to check tire pressure during hot weather.
