A 26-year-old California man was killed in a shark attack.
State officials said in a press release that the unknown man was surfing off the coast of Manresa State Beach in northern California.
Officials have not specified the type of shark.
According to the statement, the waters located one mile north and south of the attack were closed for the next five days. The attack occurred at least 100 yards off shore.
Manresa State Beach is closed to the public from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., and all beachgoers are advised to stay within 6 feet during its opening hours.
