Ohio State investigators are investigating the shooting incident that killed one year-old child and wounded two adults in Akron, as the city is witnessing a rise in homicides.
The police are searching for a pickup truck that might have been involved in the shooting, which unfolded around 9:30 pm. When a suspect fired several shots at a house, Akron police said in a press release.
The 1-year-old child was injured and transferred to Soma Akron City Hospital, where the child later died.
Police said the shooting also wounded a man and a woman who were wounded in the lower limbs. Both are hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The child’s name has been withheld, pending positive identification and family notices. And the names of adults were not immediately announced. The relationship between the three victims of the shooting was not immediately clear.
No arrests were made and the police did not have a suspect’s description. Investigators are asking the public to help identify the dark-colored pickup truck, which they believe is the Dodge Ram model.
The shooting comes after nine people were killed in Akron last month – one of the bloodiest months in the city since 2017, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
The newspaper reported that there have been 30 killings investigations in the city so far this year, adding that the police investigated 33 murders in the whole of 2019, and 32 in 2018.
