A former footballer in Kent State is killed in a shootout in Fairfield County

 The Fairfield County Sheriff is investigating a shooting incident that killed 27-year-old Marquis Strickland.

Strickland is a former soccer player in Kent State.

The shooting took place early in the town of Amanda.

Representatives heard gunshots in Block 6800 from Cromley Road. SW is around 12:30 am, according to a statement issued by the Sheriff’s Office.

The deputies found two people shot, according to the police chief.

Strickland was one of those victims.

He died in the hospital.

“We are so sad to know that Devante died. He was a prominent young man, athlete and leader. He has always expressed his desire to help others on and off the field.

Our hearts and prayers with his friends and family during this time.”
