A former police officer was convicted of seeking a 13-year-old boy

Pensacola, Fl

A former police officer at South Dakota State University was sentenced to eight years in prison for seeking a 13-year-old girl and possession of child pornography.

Adam Linz, 25, was a college police officer when he asked the girl via email and exchanged photos with her in April and June of 2019.

Linertz pleaded guilty to petitioning a minor and owning child pornography in a deal with prosecutors. The Argos Leader reported that nine other charges of possession of the property were rejected in exchange for his appeals.

He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, suspended for two years, Tuesday in Brookings County.

The victim’s parents called the law enforcement when they learned of the exchange. Investigators tracked communications to Lehnertz’s address in Brookings.

Michael Moore, Biddle County state attorney, said Linzert misused his position of authority and confidence as a law enforcement officer.

“During their conversations, he made her do things and send out things to verify that she was a real person he was talking to,” Moore said. “He was a law enforcement officer, so he misused information about law enforcement techniques and knowledge to ensure he was talking to a 13-year-old female and not a faked identity by law enforcement.”

Moore intervened to prosecute the case when Brookings State attorney withdrew.
