A man in a car shoots a crowd of protesters in Detroit, killing 19 years

The city’s police department said in a statement that a 19-year-old man was killed after gunfire was fired at a crowd of Detroit demonstrators.

Police said an unknown suspect shot a gray Dodge Durango. The victim later died in hospital.

Detroit is among many cities across the United States that have seen controversial protests overnight on Saturday over the death of black man George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody. The police made dozens of arrests over the night.

Detroit Police cannot confirm whether the victim was part of the protests, but the shooting took place in the city center where the protests were taking place. Detroit Police Check.

Earlier, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said a person had been arrested after trying to run over an officer. A captain’s officer was hit by a rock thrown by a protester and taken to hospital.

Craig said many of the detainees were not residents of Detroit.

“I will not stand idly by and let a small minority, criminals, come here, attack our officers and make our society insecure.” Just know, we will not tolerate it, “said Craig.
