The US National Institutes of Health said they have discontinued a clinical trial to assess the safety and efficacy of the drug “hydroxy chloroquine” in treating “Covid-19” patients in hospitals.

The institutes added that the study led to the fact that “hydroxy chloroquine” which President Donald Trump has long prescribed as potential treatment, did not provide any benefit to patients even though it did not harm them.

The US Food and Drug Administration has revoked the emergency use of the drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for Covid-19.

A few days ago, the World Health Organization said it had stopped the “hydroxychloroquine” test in its major trial in a number of countries on “Covid-19” patients, after new data and studies showed it was ineffective.

Trump has promoted this drug as a potential treatment, saying he has a real chance to make a big difference in the history of medicine if it is used with the antibiotic azithromycin

In a surprise announcement last month, Trump stated that he had taken the drug preventively after two people working in the White House were diagnosed with “Covid-19.”
