Maria Van Kerkhove, an epidemiologist and WHO expert, said in a press briefing that studies show that people with the virus are most transmissible when the symptoms first appear.

She said that there is another group of people who do not show symptoms, but they can be a source of infection for others, adding that 40 percent of transmission of the disease can be from cases of symptoms that do not show symptoms.
